Environmental Standards

We recognise that climate change is one of our planet’s greatest challenges, with negative impacts on the environment, people and business. We are committed to protecting the environment, minimising waste and energy consumption and using all other resources efficiently. These commitments also apply to our supply chain, where it is mandatory for all to:

  • eliminate unnecessary waste by adopting the ‘reduce, reuse, recycle’ philosophy.
  • Be a good neighbour, by minimising negative local impacts (noise, air quality), improve green areas (e.g., biodiversity, visual attractiveness
  • reduce carbon footprint – by being aware of main impacts on carbon emissions including the indirect carbon used in manufacturing processes and the direct impact of operations and logistics.

So, we have implemented the following:

  • As we make and receive deliveries to and from a warehouse, we have one centralised distribution centre; this has worked out more cost effective and has less environmental impact than a dispersed distribution system
  • As much as possible, we and our courier services prefer to deliver to business locations as oppose to residential as:
  • not only is there is greater chance of people being around to accept the delivery; which then reduces the need for redelivery of items and hence, more energy usage.
  • The use of delivery trucks in residential areas, that are not always meant for heavy delivery trucks and traffic causes more congestion, noise and pollution.
  • We move our freight by water instead to help reduce the environmental impact of logistics

We continuously maintain our own delivery vans to help reduce vehicle emission, by ensuring they are roadworthy and complies with exhaust emission standards and weight regulations. We also train our employees to drive work vehicles efficiently, e.g., encouraging them to turn off the engine when the vehicle is stationary to reduce exhaust emissions and noise

As we are serious about reducing the environmental impact of our business, we work in partnership with our suppliers to ensure they maintain their own high environmental standards.

In regards to our supply chain management, we are committed to ensuring that our current and potential manufacturers focus on environmental impact, sustainability, fair-trade and labour laws, where possible. We therefore actively engage with our manufacturers and potential manufacturers on these issues as part of the procurement process.

Furthermore, we understand that air pollution has a negative impact on human health and the natural environment. Fortunately, as a distributor, we do not manufacture or work with any harmful chemicals etc. However, we ensure that in the office environment, and in particular the warehouse, that the windows are open for ventilation.

With respect to carbon emission, we have looked into CNG, but decided this wasn’t the best option for us. However, we are always looking into alternative fuels.

All our vehicles meet euro 11 standards, and we are currently looking into obtaining a reduced pollution certificate or low emission certificates for our delivery vehicles

Top Medics (UK) Ltd, do not currently record our annual carbon emissions. However, this something we will be looking into.

At Top Medics, we always work to very high standards and provide goods of exceptional quality at fantastic prices – giving our customers best value for money. We are therefore currently working to achieve a recognized ISO 14001 environmental management system. Our commitment to obtaining ISO certification, will aid in the reassurance of our customers as to the quality of our products and service. Even though we do not currently have a formal management system, we work according to our Business Code of Conduct, which details the standards we expect all members of staff to work to.

This environmental statement/policy is reviewed and updated every year.
